Wireless Networking with UniFi

Rely on robust wireless networking with UniFi. Learn how to optimise your network setup and boost performance.

We use and recommend the Ubiquiti UniFi range for the following reasons:

  • No license fees, their goal is to provide a feature-rich environment without any hidden fees.
  • Effortless Radio Management
  • Powerful Channel Planning
  • RF Environment Scanning
  • Flexible Authentication Methods
  • Mesh networking, all UniFi APs automatically form a mesh network, broadcasting the same WiFi so you can maintain connectivity while roaming between your access points.
  • Up to 600 Connected Devices
  • 10 GbE PoE++ Uplink
  • Centralised Remote Management, no needing to connect to each individual device, all accessible from one management console.
  • Redundant GbE Port for High Availability

The set up of a UniFi device can be quite straightforward, such as simply connecting the device to a PoE switch port, While recommended to use one of their switches, it isn’t necessary as long as the connected switch has 2.5GbE performance. When the UniFi device is then connected to your network, it will pick up a DHCP address and pass leases from your DHCP server on to connected devices.

Management of the devices can all be accessed from one location once you have claimed the device via the UniFi management portal. Within the console the user has the ability to edit almost any feature’s configuration from precise radio controls to VLAN configurations.

Added to this, the UniFi Access Points (AP’s) are automatically configured to balance speed as well as provide interference protection, whereas other wireless signals can cause degradation of performance. You can also increase channel widths on AP’s with free iOS and Android mobile apps provided to confirm interference levels to assist in managing this for free.
